Honolulu airport has a secret garden. It isn't that secret really because for for years, I have been escaping to it, right after the security circus. Once I've gathered my belongings and slipped my shoes back on, I head for the glass elevator that delivers me to the quiet bliss of the garden.
There are only ever a few of us enjoying the tropical garden the ponds and the pagodas.
Once I get to my favourite bench, I set my bag down, fill my water bottle at the fountain, unwrap my sandwich and relax with my sketchbook to wait for my flight.
As for Tiki, who comes along on all my adventures, I found him in a Waikiki jewelry store a number of years ago. The moment I spotted him I knew he had to be mine. Small, coral black and shiny, he was then and still is to me a symbol of both adventure and Polynesia's ancient culture.
I have been told that he is a protector Tiki, if so, we watch over each other.
